Client Information

Please print and complete Client Intake Sheet and bring to save time during your appointment. It is best to discuss goals and modalities over phone before appointment. Your health practitioner's indication or contraindication for bodywork is always recommended, and sometimes required for certain health conditions (such as thrombosis) and during use of certain medications (such as blood thinners). Severe muscle spasms, and injuries such as tissue tears, are also included as contraindications for typical manipulative bodywork (i.e. massage not recommended.)
Rebound headaches and specific myofascial related pain may occur after Swedish or other massage therapy. During a Swedish or other massage, latent trigger points may be massaged just enough to trigger them, but not precisely enough to release them; or they may be overworked which can irritate them.
If therapeutic treatment such as Myofascial Release or Trigger Point Therapy does not produce significant results within 1 to 3 visits, then referral to medical or other practitioners is advised.

Ongoing Education during Decline of Holistic Research

Paul has education in many modalities from 3 continents, and continues to study, and contribute to, various research.
Michael Park from the University of Minnesota published research using the CD index (consolidation-or-destabilisation index), which measures the steady decrease in the disruptiveness of research. The disruption caused by 45 million papers and 3.9 million patents found online were studied to determine the cause of this decline. The group could rule out certain common theories, including a lack of “low-hanging fruits” left in science for us to discover, or the idea that the quality of current science being published has diminished over time. In fact, they attribute the loss partially to narrowing "research areas," and “narrow slices” of science currently being explored, meaning scientists are less likely to approach a topic holistically. [1]
We believe that funding sources have narrowed research and obfuscated advances that do not support current industries. Examples are Trigger Points viewed using modern imaging equipment, and the BPA research 15 years ago that was canceled, but revived by private funding to complete the revelation of the data, after which the researcher told me that his family stopped drinking out of plastic bottles - in 2011!
Sometimes routes for exploring holistic answers lie under our noses, and listening to the body and utilizing multiple skills can improve functional and performance issues, which are always related to general wellness.
